Learning Outcome 1

Learning Outcome 1

My approach to revising has significantly changed over the semester. I have developed and found different ways that have become successful. I have found brainstorming and my journals have set me up for success whereas in the beginning of the semester I would just go right into the paper. Finding quotes early that relate to my brainstorming and ideas have helped me. For project 3 I was able to collect my ideas and quotes from my two peers and connect them to Sherry Turkle’s writing before starting. This gave me a very good base to begin with compared to just writing and collecting ideas as I went on. I wrote my smaller drafts like the 400 and 800 word draft without fully revising them because I knew I had a lot of points that I wanted to get through. During our workshop and my 1200 word draft I carefully added and cut out parts that I thought would be beneficial to make my paper stronger. After having my peers revise my paper I was more open minded to change things and revise. Comparing these to my previous projects, I spent much less time revising and didn’t really listen to my peers on what they thought I should edit. For example I changed my quotes and worked on important pieces like my thesis. I felt stronger about revising because this time it wasn’t just about getting the work done for the deadline or word count, it was doing it efficiently and for the better of my paper. I was able to balance my global and local revision and it led me to be less stressed about deadlines, word count because the project flowed naturally. My development throughout the semester with my approach to revising and the way I completed my paper has grown significantly and I have begun to do my work with more effort and purpose.
